Preparing For Your First
Beginner Obedience Class

Feeding

Only feed your pup ¼ of their regular meal before class - this will ensure their attention is on you and their treats!

Arrive Early

To allow your class to start on time, please come 5 minutes before your class begins. Our doors will be locked when classes are in session. Please wait in your vehicle or outside until you see the front door opened by our staff. At this time, you may enter one at a time, maintaining social distancing protocols.

Water Dish & Water

To avoid dogs sharing water bowls, we ask that you please bring a portable water dish for your own dog.

Please also bring a water bottle as our washroom facilities are currently closed to the public until further notice.

Treats

Bring treats or some of your buddy’s food for training! Please note: no raw food treats are permitted in the training room.

Ontario-made dehydrated chicken and liver training treats are available for purchase at class, or through our online store.

Leash and Collar

Your dog should arrive at class with a collar (no Haltis) and a 6’ leash (no extendable or chain leashes). We discourage the use of harnesses, but if it is your preference you may use one.

Leashes, collars and slip leads are available for purchase at class, or through our online store.

Class Attendance

Your payment for your class is non-refundable and it is your responsibility to attend each of your classes.

If you miss a class you may review the exercises in the provided homework book and you may email or call with any questions regarding the reviewed exercises.

Make up sessions are currently unavailable due to fully booked, small classes.

Class Transfers

If necessary, we are happy to transfer your registration to another date or time if you provide notice 14 days prior to the first day of your originally scheduled course.

Beyond this, registration for a different date and time will require a new payment.

Leashes Required

Your dog must be on leash at all times while on the property of Luv-A-K9 Inc.

We ask that you don't allow your dog to approach (or visit) other dogs on leash. As this is a new environment and experience for most, this will assist you and your classmates in achieving your individual training goals with minimal distraction.

Sick Dogs

If your dog is unwell, you may attend your class without your dog.

Sick dogs must be kept home to prevent their classmates from becoming ill. Signs your dog is unwell may include:
  • Coughing/Sneezing
  • Lethargy
  • Unexplained Diarrhea
Dogs with Oral Papillomas (mouth warts) may not attend class.

Female Dogs

Female dogs in heat are not permitted to attend classes. If your female dog comes into heat, you may attend your class without your dog.

Clean Up

Outside: please pick up after your dog.

There is a garbage can located outside of our front door for your use! If you do not have a bag, please ask for one upon entering our facility!

Inside: don't worry - your dog isn't the first to make a mess at school and they won't be the last.

Our staff will hold your dog for you and will provide you with all the supplies required for clean up!
