The best way to spend your fall evenings (okay - we're biased!)
Luv-A-K9's outdoor agility field is a cherished summer hobby for many of our agility enthusiasts. So much so that we've decided to extend the fun into the fall! Whether you're joining us for the first time, or coming back for your 10th straight year, you're certain to meet new friends, learn new skills and most importantly: have a great time with your dog.
What To Expect
What To Expect
If it is your first time coming to our outdoor field for agility, welcome! You’ll be joining the friendly Luv-A-K9 community of people and their dogs: some who have been to “the field” before and some who will be attending for the first time. We’re very excited to have you join us!
Each evening a different jumpers course and different standard course will be set up. You can view and download the courses for each week here.
You’ll have the opportunity to walk the course on each field before dogs begin running the course. There will be a minimum of one trainer at the field to assist you if you have questions or need help on certain articles of equipment. Please be sure to arrive early enough to set up and settle in so we can begin our field briefings right at 4:30 PM!
Our outdoor field has two fully fenced areas that are both set up with agility courses. You will be assigned to a group, and each group will be assigned to a field. Groups will switch fields at 5:30 PM, which means you get to practice two different courses each evening. You will find your and your dog's name on our running order boards - we ask that you pay close attention to the order and are ready with your dog as soon as the person going before you has completed their run. This will ensure everyone gets as much time as possible with their dog on the field.
A portable toilet is provided at the field for your use. When weather requires it, shade tents will be provided for you to cool down in after your run with your dog, and we will have water and sunscreen on hand in case you've forgotten!
What To Bring
When you’re not working with your dog on the course, outdoor agility is a social (but now distant!)
affair! You’ll be most comfortable if you bring the following:
- Water for you and your dog (if you forget we always have some!)
- Umbrella for shade
- A lawn chair
- Poop bags
- Treats
- Sunscreen
- Bugspray
- Snacks
- Running Shoes
Field Rules
- No dogs off leash unless in the fenced agility course areas.
- No extendable (flexi) leashes.
- If your dog pees or poops while out on the field, please mark the spot! We will rinse the spot with a vinegar solution to discourage others from peeing over the same spot.
- Do not let your dog pee on the fencing of the field.
- Minimal treats please - you’re welcome to use treats when out on the field training but please be conscious to not drop them. This can be very distracting and frustrating for other dogs and handlers.
Policies
- You have booked a space for the field & have paid for that spot – there is no refund for your spot.
- If your female dog is in heat, they are NOT permitted at the field as it is distracting to other dogs.
- Paid sessions cannot be transferred to other courses or evenings.
- The field runs rain or shine! We only cancel in extreme storm conditions and you will be notified one hour prior to practice by email and phone if there is a cancellation.
- We will offer a maximum of one additional evenings in the event of cancellations at the end of the second session.
- One vehicle per registration as we have limited parking spaces available.
- A maximum of two people may attend per dog.
- Social distancing must be practiced. Only Luv-A-K9 staff will handle gates and vinegar solutions.
- Luv-A-K9 staff have the right to ask you to leave the field should you refuse to follow the field rules and policies.
A Final Note
When attending outdoor agility, you do so at your own risk. Our fields are fully fenced but there is the chance that your dog may become loose.
We expect that you monitor your dog and make decisions regarding their health accordingly. Injuries and overheating (yourself and your dog) are always a possibility and are not the responsibility of Luv-A-K9 nor can Luv-A-K9 be held accountable for health concerns or injuries as a result of this.
By participating at our outdoor agility field you agree to the above.
Where To Go
You'll find our outdoor agility fields tucked away at 3972 Florida Road in Harrowsmith, ON.
Parking is available on the left and right hand side of the field upon entering the driveway (it's easy to miss the driveway amongst the bushes that line the road so keep your eyes peeled!).
Drive safe and we'll see you up there!
